Research

Applied research behind PDIL.

The methods in the platform come from applied research tested on real data. These are the main lines of work.

Earth observation

Geothermal reconnaissance from space

A pipeline that combines thermal anomaly detection, structural mapping from elevation data and spectral alteration mapping to rank geothermal prospects over large areas. It runs in confirmed stages so the analyst stays in control.

Critical raw materials

Prospectivity mapping for the EU Critical Raw Materials Act

A three-stage pipeline for data ingestion, anomaly detection and prospectivity integration, with validation sites in Norway, Germany and Sweden covering pegmatite, carbonatite and magmatic sulphide systems.

Joint inversion

Physics-informed inversion of seismic, magnetotelluric and gravity data

A framework that couples several geophysical methods through physics-informed neural networks, including Eikonal traveltime inversion, developed and tested on geothermal case-study data.

Field data

Multi-geophysical methods

Seismic, magnetotelluric and gravity data combined and applied to real field data rather than synthetic tests only.

Hydrogeophysics

Coupled physics-informed models

Work with CNR-IRSA on coupled hydrogeophysical models, including a study of which parameters the data can and cannot identify.

Beyond the subsurface

Causal machine learning for Earth observation

A causal pipeline for Mediterranean agricultural yield, showing how the same data-handling discipline transfers between fields.
